Action Express Racing's Filipe Albuquerque laid down the early pace in the Roar Before the 24 test on Friday ahead of the Rolex 24 at Daytona later this month as Fernando Alonso made his official practice debut for United Autosports.

Albuquerque topped both of Friday's practice sessions for Action Express in the #5 Cadillac DPi-V.R., turning in a best lap time of 1:37.196 in the afternoon to finish the day one-tenth of a second clear of the field.

The FIA World Endurance Championship officials have confirmed the #7 Toyota has been excluded from qualifying for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, promoting Fernando Alonso onto pole position for his debut in the series.

Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi combined to lead Toyota to pole position for the season-opening race at Spa on Friday, finishing three-tenths of a second clear of Alonso and co-driver Kazuki Nakajima in the #8 Toyota, which finished P2.

Davidson gets part-time deal to return to WEC

Toyota driver Anthony Davidson will return to the FIA World Endurance Championship after the Le Mans 24 Hours, driving for the DragonSpeed LMP2 squad.

The 2014 WEC champion was dropped from Toyota’s LMP1 team to make way for McLaren F1 driver Fernando Alonso, with Davidson instead moving into a test and reserve driver role.

But the Briton has secured a deal to contest the remainder of the 2018/2019 WEC superseason with DragonSpeed from the Six Hours of Silverstone in August.

Ex-Formula 1 driver Pastor Maldonado will make his return to motorsport with the DragonSpeed LMP2 squad for the 2018/2019 World Endurance Championship superseason.

The 33-year-old Venezuelan, who made 95 starts for Williams and Lotus between 2011-2015, will contest the full WEC 2018/19 superseason - including a debut appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans - alongside Mexican Roberto Gonzalez in DragonSpeed’s #31 Oreca 07 prototype. The team is yet to announce its third and final driver.

Barcelona to host WEC Prologue in 2019

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host the FIA World Endurance Championship's pre-season 'Prologue' test running in 2019, taking place just over a month after the end of the previous season.

WEC traditionally stages its two-day Prologue at a circuit in Europe, with recent venues including Paul Ricard and Monza, but will head to Spain for the first time in 2019 to complete testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which traditionally hosts Formula 1's pre-season running.

Rosenqvist, Kobayashi join Super GT grid with Lexus

Felix Rosenqvist and Kamui Kobayashi will contest the 2018 Super GT championship with reigning manufacturers’ champion Lexus.

Rosenqvist, who currently occupies second in the Formula E standings, will replace the exiting Andrea Caldarelli at the Team LeMans squad, the same outfit the Swede raced for in Super Formula last year.

The 2015 European F3 champion will not continue with his Super Formula programme in 2018, instead opting to focus on his Formula E commitments alongside his new venture in Japan’s premier sportscar series.
