Juan Pablo Montoya has claimed that Martin Truex's departure from the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing will have no affect on his own assault on the end-of-season Chase for the Championship.

The Colombian has climbed into the top twelve in the Cup standings despite the uncertainty surrounding his erstwhile team-mate and, now that Truex has decided to sign with Michael Waltrip Racing for the 2010 season, Montoya wishes him well. However, the former F1 pilot refuses to accept that the move will affect the efforts of his own #42 team.

Operators of jet dryers at Martinsville got the answer wrong Saturday when they were attempting in vain to dry the racing surface for the Kroger 250 Camping World Truck Series race.

With hot air blowers aimed toward the outside wall, instead of away from it, the dryers peeled paint from the track signage in dinner-plate-sized flakes, forcing track owners to have the wall repainted for Sunday's Cup race.

The rained-out truck race has been rescheduled for noon Monday.

Bill Davis has said that his NASCAR race team will be unaffected by the news that Bill Davis Trucking has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The move has come following a lawsuit filed against the company resulting from an accident but will not have an impact on the racing side of the company - with the two being separate companies.

"This has been a very unfortunate chain of events and Gail and I certainly hate that it ever had to happen," Bill Davis said.

General Motors has announced that Mark Kent will be taking over as its new director of racing.

Kent, who replaces the outgoing Doug Duchardt, will oversee engineering and marketing activities for all of General Motors motorsports programmes, which includes the IRL, NASCAR and Grand Am.

Steve Shannon, executive director of GM marketing services, said he was delighted to have the experience of Kent on board.

The post awards for the "The Great American Race" will be $17,623,980, an increase of nearly $2 million over last year. The posted awards for the 2004 Daytona 500, which was won by Dale Earnhardt Jr., was $15,972,313.

The winner of this year's Daytona 500 will collect a minimum of $1,430,030. The second, third, fourth and fifth-place finishers in the Daytona 500 will receive a minimum of $1,029,425, $736,625, $584,750 and $456,875 respectively.
